Assistant Pre School Teachers, Diploma Trained Junction Centre

Job Summary

Reporting to the Pre School Teacher (Lead Teacher), the Assistant Preschool Teacher is responsible to assist with the planning of activities for children, such as storytelling or art projects. The Assistant Preschool instruct and supervise the children in social and developmental activities, help feed and change them, and generally provide one-on-one attention when needed.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage children in activities and play that stimulates their development
  • Appropriately supervise children while keeping them safe at all times
  • Assists children with activities of daily life (e.g., diapering/restroom use, feeding, dressing
  • Helps facilitate daily activities that are developmentally appropriate for the children
  • Assists in creating and maintaining an environment that is clean, organized, and safe for all children
  • Develops a professional level of rapport with each parent in order to provide quality care and efficient service
  • Assists the Pre School Teacher in implementing curriculum and planning daily activities that are developmentally appropriate for the children
  • Assists with the completion of daily log sheets and the daily activities pertaining to eating, sleeping, and diaper changing
  • Communicates with the Pre School Teacher regarding all aspects of the children’s care as well as classroom management
  • Maintains a professional self-image and project the values of the organization at all times
  • Ensures the safety and well-being of each child by responding to their emotional, social, and physical needs as well as their educational needs
  • Meets regularly with the Pre School Teacher to develop weekly plans and activities
  • Assists in developing and maintaining current, accurate and confidential student’s files
  • Participates in community activities and attend meetings, educational conferences and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve competence
  • Discusses identified problems and needs as appropriate
  • Performs any other duties assigned by the Pre School Teacher

 

Required Skills/knowledge and Competencies

  • The ability to write effective lesson plan
  • Excellent oral and written/listening communication skills
  • A high degree of confidentiality, patience, responsibility and adaptability.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and demonstrate a good sense of humour
  • Good time management and teaching skills
  • Sound knowledge of the Child Care and Protection Act
  • Ability to maintain composure and respond professionally under stressful circumstances
  • Good use of initiative, analytical and problem-solving skills, creativity and resourcefulness
  • Sound knowledge of child development and early education theories and practices
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and procedures

 

Minimum Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma in Early Childhood Education from a recognized teacher’s college
  • Training in food preparation, First Aid and Child Care
  • Three (3) to four (4) years’ experience in a similar position.
