Overview

V-UP

Work Observation/Experience is an aspect of the skill training offered at the Women’s Centre of Jamaica Foundation. It exposes students to an experimental or a practical component of the area vocational focus outside of the school setting, such as business, institutions, hotels and agencies.

Career Observation Experience is a two-tier activity to assist students in acquiring desirable work habits, attitudes and career awareness. It gears towards the Grades 10&11 cohort, some of whom will transition into the world of work after completing their tenure here at the Women’s Centre of Jamaica Foundation. The students are exposed to career information such as job application and resume writing, interview skills, and work etiquette.

They will also be allowed to experience a work setting for two weeks (proposed). This way, they will be exposed to a career of interest and see first-hand how the academic and technical skills taught at the WCJF will fit in a dynamic work environment. This way, students develop workplace competencies, critical thinking skills, and problem-solving abilities by creating and achieving job-related behavioural learning objectives. They will be able to see what adaptable measures they may need to apply to contribute to their economic growth by the time they are employed.

Objective

The work observation/Experience is aimed at:

  • Exposing grades 10 and 11 students to information and trends in career development.
  • Giving students the opportunity to experience the day to day operation of the workenvironment within their vocational area.
  • Creating an avenue for personal growth and career development.
  • Establishing relationships and continuous partnership with stakeholders.
